Apprenticeships

At our Dresden, Germany site, we offer a 3.5-year GF Technician Apprenticeship program. As host to one of the most modern and efficient semiconductor factories in the world with the largest clean room in Europe, our Dresden Fab offers a range of roles under the apprenticeship program including Mechatronics Technician, Microtechnologist, Electronics Technicians, Laboratory Assistants and Chemical Technicians.

We hire interns and co-ops for the summer as well as throughout the year.

Internships

We offer internships across various global locations depending on the role. In the U.S., our main sites include Malta, Burlington, Austin, Richardson and Santa Clara. In Europe, we provide internships primarily in Dresden, Germany, with occasional opportunities in Munich, Germany, and part-time, on-site roles in Sofia, Bulgaria. In Asia, internships are available in Bangalore, India and Kolkata, India, at our Singapore facility and in our Penang, Malaysia office.

US: Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a full-time accredited degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates must be at least a sophomore at the time of application.

Dresden: Candidates must be enrolled at a university (except for a voluntary internship). We offer positions as working students, voluntary interns, compulsory interns, graduates (bachelor’s, master’s) and PhD students (dual students).

Sofia: Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, telecommunications, automation or an equivalent field.

India: Internships will be offered only to students (diploma, graduates, master’s, PhD) who are currently pursuing their course with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 at approved colleges, universities and training institutions.

Singapore: Students must be eligible for an internship with an accredited Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore.

Malaysia: Students must be eligible for an internship with an accredited Institute of Higher Learning in Malaysia.

US: Applications for our 10-to-12-week summer internships usually open in September for the next year (i.e., roles open in September 2025 for Summer 2026 internships). It’s best to apply as early as September and October as we target to fill our positions by the end of December, if not sooner.

Dresden: We recruit all year round. If the positions are posted, they are usually available immediately for at least six months (ideally at least 12 months).

Sofia: We recruit all year round. The duration of our internship program is 18 months.

India: The recommended duration of an internship is a minimum of three months and up to a maximum of 12 months, subject to the approved university/college/training institute’s practice guidelines and/or policies and no extension will be entertained.

Singapore: Internship applications typically start six months prior to the internship start date.

Malaysia: We recruit all year round depending on your school’s academic calendar.

US: Yes, all of our internships are paid, and we support students who need to relocate by providing a housing stipend as well as additional tools to aid in their search.

Dresden: All interns receive a fixed salary, and working students earn an hourly wage. What do we offer: be part of an open and dynamic team at eye level, independent work in trust-based flexitime and in office, further training opportunities, attractive remuneration, in-house canteen, fitness studio and physiotherapy and other attractive health benefits.

Sofia: All interns receive a monthly scholarship and are eligible for two increases – after six and 12 months with the company.

India: All our internships are paid. We provide a stipend that varies based on the intern’s qualifications. Additionally, we offer leave benefits (sick leave and causal leave) and health insurance coverage up to two lakhs per intern.

Singapore: Interns are provided with a monthly allowance, daily meal subsidies as well as annual leave benefits.

Malaysia: Interns are provided with a monthly allowance, sick leave and outpatient medical claims benefits.

Our interns & co-ops are our entry-level talent pipeline for GF across the globe. Yes, an internship can lead to a full-time position depending upon in-role performance and business needs.

Screening of candidates by recruiter/hiring manager, approximately 30-minute online or telephone interviews, with candidate feedback to follow usually within 2-3 weeks. In some cases, there may be follow-up interviews by other members of the team and/or an assessment test.

New college graduates (NCGs)

GlobalFoundries (GF) fosters a culture of continuous learning, inclusivity and professional development. GF emphasizes the importance of education and offers various programs to support employees in their academic and professional endeavors. At GF, we have a strong commitment to maintaining an inclusive workplace, with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that provide a sense of community, career development and mentorship.

GF supports continuing education and certifications through several programs, including a tuition assistance program that reimburses employees up to $10,000 per year for degree-related courses at accredited institutions. Additionally, GF partners with eCornell to offer discounted professional development courses and provides access to LinkedIn Learning for training and certifications. In India, the Education Assistance Program reimburses employees for master’s degree courses. GF has a partnership with BITS Pilani, under which 50% of the course fee is funded by GF. GF offers funding of up to INR 2.5 lakhs for employees to pursue external training programs beyond master’s or PhD-level education.

New College Graduates (NCGs) at GF have access to mentorship opportunities, networking events, technical and soft skill development programs and comprehensive onboarding and training. Yes, we refer to it as horizontal and vertical growth opportunities. Vertical growth is becoming an expert in your area and moving upward, whereas horizontal growth is moving to different positions in different areas within the company.

Eligibility for NCG positions varies by location and job requirement: In the US, candidates must have graduated within the past year from a full-time accredited degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. In Dresden, applicants should have completed their university studies no more than two years ago. For Sofia, candidates can either be recent graduates or active students enrolled in a full-time accredited program. In Singapore and Malaysia, applicants must have graduated from university within the past year. In India, recent college graduates (Dip Eng/ BSc; BE/ BTech/ MSc/ MCA; ME/ MTech; PhD) with 0-1 years of work experience (not including internships) would be considered NCGs.

Full-time roles are offered across the US, primarily in Malta, Burlington, Austin, Richardson and Santa Clara. In Dresden and Munich, full-time roles are available with hybrid work often possible. Sofia offers full-time roles exclusively, following a hybrid model. Singapore provides full-time roles with hybrid work typically an option, while Malaysia offers full-time positions only in Penang, where hybrid work is also generally available.

Typically, candidates first apply, then screen with a recruiter before moving onto hiring manager interview(s). For Dresden, the hiring manager interview(s) may happen before a recruiter post-screen. In India, the process begins with an online assessment, followed by two technical interviews and an interview with HR.
